This has been dormant for 8 years!
So I am awaking the Road Trip page!!

I have wanted to go Yosemite in the early spring for some time now.
I want to see this majestic park during a different season other than the over crowded summer.

Mr. Pyro, Edlinda and I are going camping this Sunday for 5 nights!!
We leave Sat. night and hope to arrive around 9ish am on Sun.
The first 2 nights will be quite cold, the rest should have sonny days and cool nights.
We are prepared with heaters, and layers upon layers of warm clothes.
The infamous smug pot will be present to provide heat.
Maybe the bears will be hibernating??

We'll keep you updated!!

Edlinda posted that Ivan hit some black ice and almost went off the edge. Luckily he managed to avoid the bus going over but Ivan's trailer was damaged. Glad they are OK and that they made it.

Oh my goodness! So glad you are not injured.

What a way to start retirement.

Slow & steady my friends. Get there, get home safely.

It looks really cold. I wish I was there...

Glad Ivan and Edlinda are safe, the text messages with pics I've received are really cool, looks like a great trip (besides the obvious upside down trailer).

Have fun guys, be safe!

The trip IMO was epic for me!!
Pretty sure Edlinda and Pyro feel the same way.?
The trailer flip was just part of the adventure, no one hurt
and 4 of us flipped the trailer back on all 2 wheels!
Hooked it up and off we went.
When driving into the park the scenery was breathtaking!
Only the higher elevations were we drive in had the snow and icy roads like the pic of the flipped trailer.
In the valley all roads were clear and almost no snow, only patches in the shade areas and all was gone in a couple days.
Only the first night was really cold, but with the smug pot and heaters in the tent all was warm.
Everyday was "sunny" and quite warm, in the low to high 60'S!! Many were hiking in shorts.
In the morning I believe maybe 29-33.
Every open camping area, Upper Pines and North Pines as well as the pack packers camp was a full house, zero vacancies.
The falls were flowing strong, however I have seen the rivers way higher.
I will try to post some pics here or you can go the SV2s FB page.
I'm ready to go back again, but we all know Pyro, been there done that!!

So glad that you all made it home safely. Sounds like an epic trip! I was watching the weather in the valley and noticed that the temps are rising. Even if it is cold at night it is a large blessing to be warm during the day.

Just testing the pix posting here. Since "retiring" from my computer at work with the great photo editing program, I cannot resize the pix to make the fit here in the forums and I don't have a way to "see" what size they are to begin with. So I just tried to upload a "normal" sized pix vs a cropped one and it looks like they are both of reasonable size to post without having to scroll around to see it.

I was present for this adventure and all I can say is you were very fortunate
to have minimal damage. Are you going to switch out the receiver?
There had to be some damage, even very minor, after it broke loose from the ball!

Check out this exchange in pm from thedrambadotcom's forums...

Musta been a hella dump!

Iffin it was just this past Friday, we were on our way out. We camped there from Sunday starting our adventure by hitting black ice just 20 miles short of the valley, skidding/fishtailing and ultimately flipping my trailer on its side. :-s

Not much damage and nothing lost, right sided it, hooked it back up and kept on! Had a great time there. Been there about 4/5 times and never seen the falls raging so much!

Hope you enjoyed it too.

You must have come over Hwy 41. That road in the winter is train wreck. Glad nothing really bad happened.
I’ve been working here in the Valley since last April on the Valley Loop Rd. Repair and Reconstruction. Should be done before Memorial Day, I hope.
Your tutorial on the IRS conversion inspired me to build my current project. I have all the parts and tools. Now I just need the time.
I’ll be going to Red Barn. Should I keep an eye out for you?

Good luck on the project and feel free to ask anything if the need arises. AFA Red Barn is concerned, I used to do it all the time. Not so much anymore. It's been over ten years now. Was fun while we did it so do go and enjoy it. I'll be at BlackStar as always if you can make It.

When the “Goat’el” is roadworthy I plan to make it down. I went a couple of times when it was actually at Blackstar. I had a blast! See you there sometime.
Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down!!

I'll skip it too this time.....
A heavy warm rain is forecast. Lots of rain + warm weather to melt snow = Yosemite Valley is evacuated and closed this weekend.
