We went from Dec 1 to Dec 8 in a matter of days  I think change is great but tradition is the backbone of any club.

With out the hard work of the SD crew I do not think we would be here today and tradition is a part of that. Only my opinion

I agree that there is room for tradition in some areas, but I don't feel there should be a precedent in something like scheduling a holiday party. Plans should be governed more by practicality as this situation is. For one, we need the extra time; experience has shown that over the years. Also, if we started at 7:00 pm (and we rarely start on time), those who drove from the southernmost parts of SD would be getting home really late. Even our 5:00 pm starts don't start right at 5:00 pm either. Brooks pointed out that in San Diego, Christmas on the Prado is always the first weekend of December, the OB Christmas Parade is always the first Saturday in December. The SV2s' Christmas Party is always the first Saturday in December. However, the party doesn't have to be. We're not dictated by city scheduling which is far more complicated than a bus club. This is one of those unusual Decembers with 4 Saturdays before Christmas. It's a luxury that can be taken advantage of. Those in the San Diego area who want to enjoy the Christmas on the Prado and the OB Christmas Parade can enjoy them fully without having to compromise their time struggling to get to the club holiday party on the same day. (On a lighter note, those members who haven't quite finished that special gift have an extra week.)
I can't believe this has escalated this far.
Tony

And, our OC rep should be able to attend the festive event his own chapter is hosting, right? John has been working tirelessly behind the scenes for this club for years. He deserves to party. Come on, you all, this is going to be FUN!

I'm okay with the 8th. But make sure you get the info into the newsletter ASAP for all members to get the notice. We here don't amount to even 20 occasionally browsing these forums. And FYI, every single club event is open to ALL MEMBERS who care to join in no matter which chapter puts it together!

A 5pm start is also fine by me!

Christmas isn't about having "fun": it's about being with club members.

I'm just updating the site a bit. This chapter does, indeed, meet each month to discuss whatever is going on in the VW world while also enjoying some tasty German food. As you know, we typically touch bases with the "movers and shakers" of So-Cal events. Just to name drop, we see Rich Kimball, Eric Koplein, Corona Ryan, Ron Fleming, and others who drop by occasionally. We share a very good relationship and each works to help the other.

Currently, we're opening discussions on the next Oktoberfest at the Phoenix Club. Also, John and I are working on more interviews for the Legends in Their Own Time series.

Just a reminder, every member of SV2s is always welcome to attend any chapter's meetings (not limited to attending their own region's chapter meeting).
Please drop by sometime. :smt039

Tony, give me a date for Oktoberfest and tell me which VW from my stable would be welcome and I'll be there if you want me. If I recall, there weren't any squarebacks represented last year. Mine actually has a sticker from Germany on the back window! Sorry I can't come to the chapter meetings but you know why.

As soon as I know the details of the Oktoberfest, I will absolutely let everyone know so all can have as much fun as (or more than) we had last year. We're hoping to convince them to allow us to park along the sidewalks throughout the festivities. More fun for the people and more exposure for us.
As they say in the movies, I'll get back to you.

Just a heads-up Tony, but over on theSamba another club was talking about getting their VWs into Oktoberfest. It's on the Show/Events thread about the Phoenix Club show we just did.

Thanks for the heads-up. All the more reason for John to get a little more aggressive on this. Of course, it's possible to schedule them on a different weekend than the one we get, but it would be nice for us to get the ideal weekend.

I'll get a hold of him probably on Monday, as my Sunday plate is pretty full.

Inside joke, Dave, with a member that is no longer driving his bus. No one knew how to spell back then either. BTW, Pyro, how is Turbo_g's subhatch doing?
