Did everyone fare well during the outage? I had a hysterical teen but what else is new. It was kinda fun to hang out in the swelter of the front yard and see neighbors not normally seen except through their windows. My neighborhood was the northernmost border of the outage, of course. We could see people across the next main road with power because they had SC Edison instead of SDG&E. I was thankfully happy for my stash of earthquake supplies. Throughout the drama a baby tortoise hatched in my incubator. Life goes on!

I had FUN!! Hung out with neighbors, had a fire in the driveway, had to drink the beer before it got warm. Started my generator to power the frig, a light in the kitchen and a fan in the bedroom. We cook with natural gas so no prob. I had about 8 flashlights that I shared with the neighbors and my daughter, she lives on my street. I also used my kerosene lantern.

I had to power a radio with a car battery! :???:

Candle light dinner. Battery operated interweb surfing. A beer a drink and a good night. Power back on around 3am. I'm still here. Image

I got all my lanterns down before it got dark and cooked hot dogs for the family and friends. Then around 8:30 we went for a walk in the moon light. Good times.

My cousin lives in Indio. He has a bar there. While there was no power, he had candles and lanterns to light up the bar and had $2 drink specials. He did good! It was 118* out there yesterday.

We camped out in the backyard. I set-up the Westy tent and the laptop in the afternoon. Joaquin and cousin watched a movie. Candice and I enjoyed a nice quiet evening, and drank some wine, it was AWESOME.

We had lots of candles, flashlights, a hand crank radio and even a generator. Checked on the neighbors, ate our dinner, had a beer on the patio. We drove down the hill and it was WEIRD to see Newport avenue completely dark...except for the Harp Bar. They must have had a genny, since their lights were on, the big screen had the Packers/Saints game on, and the place was packed.
We drove to the other side of the hill and looked out over SD Bay and towards downtown...which were 95% dark. Also weird. We got a number of texts from family members asking "are you OK?????".

Glad to hear all is well in SD. We up here in North OC escaped with power. But if we ever go without power, It will just be another campout. Cheap therapy!

I guess there's a little McGyver in a lot of us. I'm glad you all made the best of it and it sounds like you survived quite well. Whew!

We sat on the front porch and watched people parade by until about 10pm. Cooked dinner by propane lantern light, drank beer out of the freeze, walked over to the rim of Mission Valley and marveled at the sight of what San Diego must have looked like 100 years ago. It was great =D>
