Happy Thanksgiving 2013! Today is a short work day then the at-home prep begins! Going to my mom's (our childhood home) as per our family's tradition. Two sisters and their kids are in town. Brother in Maui can't make it. My mom still insists on doing the turkey and making the pies but on the actual day we hand her a glass of wine and plant her in the living room out of the way. My sisters and I are a well-oiled machine. My mom always invites a few strays who only have out-of-town families. This year we have three joining us! My son is learning the fine art of carving the turkey since he is the only young male attendee. My youngest sister and I are the token vegetarians and we make some creative side dishes to supplement the traditional fare. No Black Friday shopping for any of us! No bargain is worth the bad manners that come with the feeding frenzy mentality of that day! The weekend holds the USC/UCLA game. GO TROJANS!! FIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanksgiving Day is a family celebration, so enjoy the day in whatever way gives you joy. It's not really about the food, it's about being together. Since Edlinda is cooking pork, it gives new meaning to, "Pig out!" Enjoy!
Have a great day, y'all!

A Very Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone. Our two younger "kids" (24 and 21) are coming in. My sister, husband, their two kids and one spouse will be here. So along with us and our elder son and his GF we will have 11 for dinner. Got to get going…….tons to do today.

(And yesterday we went into escrow on a condo we are purchasing in partnership with our son. Oh Lord, the paperwork!)

Happy Turkey Day everyone.

We will be heading up to La Mirada to my Grandmother's house where she WILL cook EVERYTHING. She will not allow us to bring anything. She always cooks everything perfectly. My wife and her mother are planning on going out on Bad Manners Friday. I will stay home and party with my kids. I hate shopping any time between Thanksgiving and New Years.
