 Post subject: Install hub cap clips

I am getting new tires on the camper, switching to 15" wheels and I need to replace the hub cap clips.
It appears that it is not an easy job, it this correct?

Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to replace them? I have purchased some from WW and
would like to get them installed before the tires are mounted on the wheels.

I used a small flat head machine screw from the back side of the rim, through the clip, and then a lock washer, and a nut with thread locker. This has worked fine for me for several years. The factory used rivets and someone who is (or used to be) around these forums has the tool to rivet them on.

I did the same as Larry. Much easier but mainly because the holes for the rivets on my wheels were drilled out too far. I tried the rivets. The club has the tool (David Lopez I believe has it) to hold the rivet.

I use stainless steel rivets from Lowes. I attach the clip from the back side with the rivet tool so the flat side of the rivet is up against the drum. I then peen the rivet over a bit to make sure it holds. If someone had the proper tool I would use the factory style rivets as those things never give way. Wish the same could be saiud of the clips themselves.
BTW, you don't happen to have an extra 15inch wheel do you Chris?

Thanks, I did go the stainless steel route, however, got the round head screws, back to the depot for the flat heads!!
Not sure what I was thinking.

I made an attempt to hammer the rivet that came with .... gave up!

I tried one wheel with the rivets that came with the clips. That is when I found out that the holes for the rivets were too big.

I used the stainless steel flat screws. I put some lock tight on the screws and it was good to go.

Did the screw method and I am happy, also ... I love my new meaty tires!

My hub caps are on so good. I lost one on my old rim.
