And the weather up here just 30 miles or so south of Twin Lakes is fantastic. High 70s/low 80s in the day and low 50s at night. The big fire just north of Lee Vining that started 10 days or so is out and the town is safe. Best of luck to all the travelers.

Larry,

If you are in Lee Vining while we are in Bridgeport, let's meet up!

Cheers,

Greg

my engine leaks arrgh, what should I do?
I don't have the time to fix it myself without help!
Should I take it as is?

BTY I heard from Frank and Wanda, they will be there the week after we leave.
They were hoping to see us again this year.

Back to my engine leak??

I suck at helping but I'm happy to come to your house and help you pull the motor, if you know what you are doing to fix the leak, i can watch and grab you a beer when you need it...I might even learn something...

Or, just drive it as is (so long as the leak is not too bad).

Sorry we will be spending two solid weeks in San Diego (for about the only time this summer) while you are in Bridgeport.
Safe travels!

That will be a real quandary since Ivan already has a leak that he did not have time to fix so he built gutters to divert the oil. He already claimed "caboose".

Alright, so the departing night is to happen on the 22nd. How about getting the logistics together, where to meet, actual time of departure and such?

Glad you asked. Dan and I have chatted on the phone just today, he will call you to coordinate departure time from San Diego. Once all are on board with your departure I will meet you north of the 91 along the 15.

My suggestion is for you guys to meet around 9:00-9:30pm. Be to me about 11:00pm.

But I'm flexible.

It is about a 12 hour drive for us. I'm good for an 8 pm departure time, no earlier, but okay with 9. Being that Chris is off the I-15, we can meet somewhere up that way, like the gas station I meet with him the last time. Randee could meet us there or farther up a bit.

What do you know about the camp fire status? :-s

Camp Fires at Mono Village are day-by-day decision by the campground director. I have been there when they have allowed one day and not the next. It's hit and miss. I know there was a fire near there recently but the air is clean and the fire is out now.

The humidity there this week and next is EXTREMELY low, but the week we are there it is forecasted to increase to 25~26% RH. And there is a chance for some slight showers on Wednesday, which will moisten the area up. In the past, when we get a small hit of rain, they allow fires again.

It's all hit and miss, and our lovely El Nino, which did give Norther Cal a bit more snow pack this year, did not make a huge dent in the problem.

Campfire or no, it will be a fantastic time!

Just for general information, we departed Lee Vining (25 miles south of Bridgeport) at 11:30 AM yesterday heading south. The observed temperatures were as follows:

Lee Vining 81*
Mammoth turn off (203) 84*
Bishop 98*
Lone Pine 98*
Ridgecrest/China Lake 100*
Red Mountain/Johannesburg 102*
Kramer Junction 103*
Adelanto 102* (around 5 PM)
San Bernardino 96*
Temecula 94*
Ocean Beach 72* (@ 8:15 PM)

The temp inside the 4Runner with the A/C humming was a steady 72. We and the dogs were quite comfy. In the entire week were up north we saw 0 splits, 1 bay and about 6 Vanagons (including one Synchro...our neighbor!)

Yes the humidity was very low recently - and that area is normally very dry. Fire risk is high.

15/215 from Temecula to Victorville/Adelanto was in good shape. Very little construction.
395 had very little construction except near June Lake where they were chip sealing.
There was one detour in Adelanto but that seemed to be a temporary situation.
Truck traffic was blessedly light - may you be so lucky.

Traveling at night to avoid some of the heat.....priceless!

Safe and steady travels to you have. Have a grand time.
